OUR DREAM – The Legacy Continues

Since its inception in 1925, St. Andrew High School for Girls has had a distinguished tradition of being an outstanding educational institution that produces women who continue to contribute positively to every sphere of life in Jamaica and around the world.  

Beginning with the Gartshore sisters in 1925, educators throughout the school’s history have sought to ensure that the legacy of “Life More Abundant” continues to be a reality for every student. This means keeping up with changing educational needs and remaining relevant.

We believe that the future of St. Andrew High School and its ability to continue to provide a legacy of the highest standard of education lie in the establishment of a Foundation to help fund the school’s budget and to oversee the various scholarships now offered.

The St. Andrew High School Foundation was established in September 2005 on the occasion of the school’s 80th Anniversary. Our dream is to maintain the legacy of ensuring that the school continues the tradition of excellence and that students are equipped to be leaders in every sphere of life.

The Foundation has a target of J$100 million over 5 years to:

  • Provide a high quality teaching and learning experience to every student
  • Acquire and maintain technologically advanced facilities
  • Recruit and retain competent staff who are trained in current trends in their relevant areas

The Foundation has two main sources for generating funds:

  • The Endowment Fund
  • The Special Projects Fund

The main purpose of the Endowment Fund is to maintain funds in perpetuity for capital projects and other major programs undertaken by the school.

The Special Projects Fund is maintained primarily from donations or fundraising for the purpose of funding short-term activities and projects for the school.

Old Girls both at home and abroad have been towers of strength and support for the institution and we continue to depend on your support as we work to ensure that the rich legacy provided by St. Andrew High School is passed on to generations to come.
